Bystander CPR Helps Michael Overcome Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Bystander CPR Helps Michael Overcome Sudden Cardiac Arrest

On April 1, 2023, Michael suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while sitting next to his wife, Valerie Layton, who was at church practicing songs for the Sunday service. Valerie and a group of bystanders administered CPR until the fire rescue arrived. Half an hour later, Michael woke up in the UF (University of Florida) Health’s cardiac intensive care unit and saw his wife standing next to the bed. Her presence at the time of the incident and knowledge of CPR had saved his life.
